Obstructive setup for auto-PEEP

Asthma/COPD/bronchospasm plus high RR is a setup for dynamic hyperinflation.

Typical scenario

  • Asthma/COPD crash airway after intubation.
  • High minute ventilation demand with insufficient expiratory time.
  • Dyssynchrony or agitation causing stacked breaths.
